McCall Gardens opens in Saanich as company nears 100 years of funeral services

McCall Funeral and Cremation Service has announced the opening of its Saanich-based state-of-the-art funeral services and celebration of life facility.

The 15,000 square foot McCall Gardens and Sequoia Centre on Falaise Drive ushers in a new era for a company nearing a celebration of its own.

"After almost a century at Johnson and Vancouver streets and some 50 years in our 1960's-era building, we knew that we needed a new facility, and the options were to invest a lot of money into our downtown space or look at redeveloping our Sequoia Gardens Memorial funeral home in Saanich," said McCall's Vice President, Trevor McCall. VicHockeyFan posted topic Christmas Craft Beer Show at SOFMC - Dec 2/3 2016

lpoutine,

VicHockeyFan has just posted a new topic entitled "Christmas Craft Beer Show at SOFMC - Dec 2/3 2016" in forum "Arts, Culture and Entertainment".

----------------------------------------------------------------------
------------ QUOTE ----------
The best part about beer is that it can be enjoyed at any time of the year, and it should be celebrated in the same manner. At RG Properties, we recognized a void in the beer celebration calendar that needed to be rectified.

Most beer festivals are held throughout the summer months to take advantage of the beautiful relationship between warm weather and cold glass of suds. There are few things that go together so well, but having to wait through fall, winter and spring to get together again and see what is occurring in the industry by celebrating the delectable flavours seems very short sighted.

To bridge the gap, we have decided to have everyone raise a mug of holiday cheer and join us for the first ever Christmas Craft Beer Show at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre.

In our estimation, this is a great concept that will allow the multitude of fantastic local micro-breweries to gather together to display their seasonal products as well as their brewery favorites to both beer lovers and food and beverage professionals ahead of the holiday season.

This is an out of the box event for the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre, but one we believe is needed in Victoria and will allow for all involved to garner exposure ahead of the most significant holiday season of the year and a chance for us all to enjoy a happy and prosperous New Year!

Thinklandia, Victoria's creative festival, opens tomorrow and runs through September 13th. This year they're holding it at Dockside Green. Well, at least DG is doing something with their empty property.

So what is Thinklandia? From their website:

------------ QUOTE ----------
THINKLANDIA is a festival of imagination, thought, and inspiration created to connect our creative communities to one another, and to the world.

-----------------------------

There's going to be speakers (a pretty eclectic group), music, booths, etc. It's NOT free but you can get more info here: http://thinklandia.ca/

They do have a cool logo and stage canopy.

Mike K. posted topic [Downtown Victoria] 1222-1280 Douglas Street

lpoutine,

Mike K. has just posted a new topic entitled "[Downtown Victoria] 1222-1280 Douglas Street" in forum "City of Victoria".

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Multiple industry insiders say talk of Chapters leaving downtown Victoria, Shoppers Drug Mart taking over its space, and the Shoppers Drug Mart building being redevelopment is the real deal.

But this will play out over the span of a couple of years, there are no immediate closures pending and no buildings will be coming down next year.

Shoppers Drug Mart set to move as Chapters mulls downtown exit strategy

The 1200-block of Douglas Street is in-store for a major retailer shuffle as two heavyweight downtown businesses get set for real-estate plays.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, industry insiders tell Citified the three-level Chapters bookstore at 1212 Douglas Street is in the midst of a downtown Victoria exit strategy, a plan that will eventually see the operation vacate its retail space of 20-years.

Although Chapters' parent company Indigo Books and Music has been closing locations in secondary markets across Canada, Chapters is expected to maintain a retail presence on southern Vancouver Island.
