Mike K. posted topic The Bay Centre | Downtown Victoria

lpoutine,

Mike K. has just posted a new topic entitled "The Bay Centre | Downtown Victoria" in forum "Retail Establishments & Grocery Markets".

----------------------------------------------------------------------
The Bay Centre begins enhancements in advance of welcoming new tenant
New services to help augment the heart of downtown Victoria's shopping district

Feb. 26, 2018, Victoria, BC – The Bay Centre has begun undertaking interior enhancements in preparation of welcoming a 20,000 square foot, multi-level store, scheduled to open in spring 2019. Located on levels 1 and 2, the addition of the soon to be named tenant is part of an overall remerchandising program currently underway at The Bay Centre.

"Our goal is to become a shoppers' first destination by welcoming new tenants, events, and partners as we embrace the overall growth of downtown," says Darlene Hollstein, General Manager of The Bay Centre. "Over the long-term, the realignment of the stores and services that are in The Bay Centre is intended to further enhance the shopping experience for those who live, work, and play downtown."

Additional shopping centre enhancements planned for 2018 include entryway upgrades, interior and exterior lighting improvements, and redesigned marquee signs designed to strengthen the guest experience and attract new, long-term tenants to the downtown Victoria marketplace. As part of the new store opening, some tenants will move to new locations.

The shift in the merchandising mix of The Bay Centre reflects the ongoing changes to the city's downtown core. With an increase of residential units – both market and rental – in the last few years, with buildings such as the Sovereign, Escher, Era, Janion, and the Hudson District completed and welcoming residents, more Victorians now call downtown their home.

Overall, the city is growing; the recent population estimate for Victoria saw an increase of 7.2 per cent (Canada Census, 2016). In addition, the City of Victoria's Downtown Core Area Plan identifies that with increased residential growth, commercial stores, services, and dining establishments will also need to shift to fit the needs of residents.

"We're growing up as a city, and it shows," says Hollstein. "We continue to see more and more people choose to live downtown and seek out services, shopping, and restaurants that make an urban environment vibrant and welcoming."

As part of normal industry practice, the name of the new tenant will be released when the retailer is prepared to make an announcement.

Every once in a while I find it good practise to stand back and remind myself what my mission statement is. We all have them wether we know it or not. Mission statements or "goals" if you will are simple phrases that help remind us why we do what we do, or perhaps what we attempt to accomplish.

My business life has particular goals that could be summed up with a mission statement that would focus on life safety with a goal of helping to protect people from harm. My family life mission has a different focus that leans towards current day happiness and love and present and future security for my family and loved ones.

My purpose for moderating this forum has many facets. One is to be helpful. Another is to assist in providing a safe environment for the exchange of ideas in a thoughtful and caring way. An environment where good etiquette is observed and embraced and more importantly enjoyed by all who participate.

VibrantVictoria is not a public forum. It is a private forum where the public are able to participate and share information on various topics. What we do request as moderators is that you remember that what you post here on this forum reflects on us all. What people read here on this forum reflects on us all. It is important to remember that one must post with etiquette and good form.

We are a group of like minded people that share different ideas, thoughts and facts. We educate one another as well as our reader base. Please keep your posts short and sweet. Be respectful and be on topic. There are plenty of other forums out there if you do not respect these ideals.

Your moderating team likes to come here to be enlightened. That is our mission statement for you as well.

Star Dust posted topic BC Minimum Wage Increase Offcially Announced This Morning

lpoutine,

Star Dust has just posted a new topic entitled "BC Minimum Wage Increase Offcially Announced This Morning" in forum "Victoria Politics".

----------------------------------------------------------------------
The BC NDP has just delivered on one of their main campaign promises to increase BC's Minimum wage to $15 Dollars an hour by 2021.

But not only have they just rolled out the minimum wage increase plan this morning, but it will surpass the $15 dollar/hour goal and it will reach $15.20 by June 2021.

The minimum wage in BC will do a major jump to $12.60/hour this June, and then increase once a year every June until it reaches $15.20 per hour

A MAJOR VICTORY for the minimum wage worker (which is a huge percentage of the population)

What are your thoughts on the increase?

Chances are, if you're a business owner you are not gonna be happy, but if you are an employee working in the minimum wage sector you likely be celebrating.

Star Dust posted topic Alberta NDP Wages War On BC NDP

lpoutine,

Star Dust has just posted a new topic entitled "Alberta NDP Wages War On BC NDP" in forum "Victoria Politics".

----------------------------------------------------------------------
As you may have heard, the Alberta NDP has waged war on the the BC NDP over differences involving the Kinder Morgan Trans Mountain pipeline and has now launched a FULL and immediate Boycott of importing BC Wines, which generates around 70 million a year for the province of BC.. She has also made other threats regarding importing electricity from BC. The Alberta NDP has also suspended talks to buy B.C. electricity.

B.C. NDP Premier John Horgan said his government has the right to consult with citizens on the impact of diluted bitumen spills on the coastline.

The part I find so unusual about this situation, is that I can't remember a time in my life when two Provinces who are lead by the same political party are actually at war with each other.

Unlike most other parties in Canada, where provincial and federal politics and parties are separated and members of one are not necessarily members of the other, NDP members are automatically members of both the federal and provincial party, and provincial NDP Parties are consider an arm of the Federal NDP party.
