A Metro Vancouver mayor is pitching a B.C.-wide return-it deposit for cigarette butts — similar to the fees charged for pop cans and beer bottles — as a way to keep the litter from contaminating storm drains and local waterways.
North Vancouver Mayor Darrell Mussatto, chairman of Metro Vancouver's utilities committee, said he will suggest next month that the Metro committee study the issue and the effect it has on aquatic wildlife, saying there has been a substantial increase in the number of butts dumped on the streets and ending up in local storm drains.
The move follows a unanimous decision by the North Shore city council this week to ask the Union of B.C. Municipalities convention to support the cigarette butt return-it deposit at its convention in September. Mussatto said he also plans to meet with MLAs and lobby the provincial government to consider legislating the return-it deposit.

For the fourth consecutive year, Victoria will be host to Le Dîner en Blanc (http://victoria.dinerenblanc.info/register), the annual secret event where guests dress all in white and descend on a secret location for a pop-up gourmet picnic. The event has become a much-anticipated annual celebration in Victoria. Approximately 1,600 foodies, fashion and cultural enthusiasts attended the 2015 event at Ship's Point, which was the highest rated Le Dîner en Blanc event in all of Canada. This year, close to 2,000 people are expected. The evening includes musical entertainment, dancing on location, the lighting of thousands of sparklers and an after party, also held at a secret location.

They were affiliated with the defunct Lyrics store at West Side Village, going by their clothing and some videos depicting them inside the former retail space. They are now on to a new clothing line called Harbour Gang, I believe.
